Books

Rebel Without A Crew by Robert Rodriguez - A journal-style walk through Rodriguez' rise from humble beginnings to a hot item in Hollywood. A very interesting read, and valuable inspiration for an independent filmmaker. It shows you just what is possible with limited resources. Find it on Amazon.

DV Rebel's Guide by Stu Maschwitz - A sort of handbook for digital video. A tad bit dated, but still very much useful. Includes sections on stuntwork, proper handling of firearms props, getting the most out of your equipment, and many aspects of pre through post-production. Find it on Amazon.
Web Shows

Film State - Produced by the same people as Film Riot, Film State is all about film-related news. Not just for filmmakers either. New trailers, rumors, movie recommendations, reviews, and more can be found here.
Web Sites
Detonation Films - Anybody interested in directing the next great action movie on the cheap will want to know about this site. Cheap or free effects elements such as gunfire, explosions, smoke puffs, and more can all be found here.
Video Copilot - An awesome resource. Lots of pre-keyed footage to use with After Effects or similar software. Kind of like Detonation Films on steroids. Plenty of tutorials too. Find it all here.
B&H Photo/Video/Pro Audio - The filmmaker's candy store. This place is an outlet for any and all equipment you will ever need. But they also do equipment reviews and suggestions on their YouTube channel.
